Abandoned Vehicle Project

The Copper Valley Abandoned Vehicle and Scrap Metal Removal Project is finally complete!! The last 30 Slana vehicles and scrap metal from the refrigerators brought in 2007 were removed in mid-October. Eighty (80) cars were removed from Slana and fifty (50) cars from the Nelchina-Mendeltna area this July. This brings the project total over 1,175 vehicles removed from the Copper Valley for recycling in the Lower 48. Other recycling efforts this year resulted in nearly 8,000 pounds of electronics, 78 refrigerators, and 200 lead-acid batteries being diverted from the landfill. These efforts exhausted the funding secured by CVDA for the project, and final reports have been filed with all grantors. CVDA would like to thank its numerous partners and all the hard work of our local contractors for getting the project done! Read more or check out the chart of how many vehicles were removed from each community.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy
