Events and Calendar >Copper Basin 300 Copper Basin 300 January 9, 2010 This 300 mile sled dog race is dubbed as "Twenty years of the toughest 300 miles in Alaska". As a qualifier for longer races such as the Iditarod and Yukon Quest, it attracts big name mushers such as Lance Mackey in a small town setting. Spectators can visit and watch the teams at the starting gate and at many of the lodges along the trail route. Temperatures in the Copper River Country can plummet in early January when the race is hosted. Spectators are advised to dress warmly! With the backdrop of the Wrangell Mountains, the scenery is one of the most spectacular in the State. Visit the Copper Valley Chamber of Commerce site for travel information.
